The Cantera Greenway, promoted by the Regional Government of Valencia (Generalitat Valenciana), has been awarded a Special Mention in Category B of the Albert Serratosa National Awards for Urban Planning and Territory, presented by Fundación Caminos during the awards ceremony held on 28 May 2026 at Madrid’s Teatro Real, from a total of 21 entries submitted across Categories A and B, further underscoring the significance of the distinction received.
The award highlights a project that has transformed a former railway corridor into a pedestrian and cycling route integrated into Alicante’s coastline, regenerating underused spaces and improving connectivity between different urban areas through an accessible, sustainable and environmentally sensitive infrastructure.
The intervention has enabled the restoration and enhancement of elements of the historic railway heritage associated with the former Trenet de la Marina line, promoting active mobility and strengthening the relationship between the city and its seafront. The project has also created a new public space for residents and visitors, generating positive impacts on urban quality, territorial cohesion and Alicante’s tourism appeal.
This project stands as an example of urban regeneration and heritage restoration that has given Alicante a new landmark public space. As the firm responsible for the project authorship and construction management of the works, CIVIS would like to thank the Generalitat Valenciana for their trust, Eiffage Infraestructuras as contractor, and all the companies and institutions involved for their collaboration in making this project a reality.
