Last June, the urban development works for the sustainable urban drainage system associated with the new park-and-ride facility on the municipal plot of El Moralet, in Benidorm, were completed, with CIVIS CONSULTORES providing technical assistance during the works..
The project, with a total investment of €2,499,105.92 (VAT included) and an implementation period of eight months, was funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme, within the framework of the 2022 Tourism Sustainability Plan “Visión 360”.
The car park opened to the public on 1 July. It is a strategically located park-and-ride facility at one of the main gateways to the city, next to the TRAM station, providing a total of 360 new parking spaces, including spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, families, motorcycles and other vehicles.
The project addresses the shortage of parking areas in the municipality through the implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). The system incorporates solutions designed to promote the retention, storage and infiltration of rainwater, while reducing soil sealing through the use of permeable paving.
The new car park also includes several pedestrian routes connecting the city of Benidorm with the parking area and El Moralet Park. In addition, the landscaped areas have been expanded through the planting of trees and native shrub species, helping to reduce the urban heat island effect and create areas of natural shade.
With the completion of the works, the project provides a new parking facility at one of Benidorm’s main access points, while promoting sustainable mobility and improving stormwater management through sustainable urban drainage solutions.
