Phase I of Sector La Hoya (€33M initial investment) has reached its first major milestone: Avenida José Carreras is open. The avenue — connecting CV-905 to Torrevieja’s sports area — has been transformed into a wide, tree-lined boulevard: two lanes in each direction, cycle lane, generous pavements and integrated SuDS drainage. It is now the eastern gateway to the sector, and when the future four-lane bridge replaces the current overpass on the Torrevieja Bypass, it will redefine how the western city moves.
SuDS are built into every element of the street design: draining concrete in the parking bays, gravel-filter areas in road islands, and geotextile filtration throughout.
Works continue towards Phase I completion in spring-summer 2025. At full build-out: more than 7,000 homes, civic facilities, and a significant green buffer adjoining the Lagunas de la Mata–Torrevieja Natural Park. A new model for sustainable urban growth.
