The urbanization works of phase I of the S20 "La Hoya" sector with an initial planned investment of 33,000,000 Euros reach their first milestone, with the completion of the redevelopment of Avenida José Carreras, and its commissioning. This avenue, which connects the CV-905 road with the Torrevieja sports area, has been transformed into a wide avenue with two lanes in each direction, lateral parking strips, a bike lane, wide sidewalks and green bands supporting the sustainable urban drainage network. Avda José Carreras is now the eastern façade of the Sector, and which, together with the future demolition of the current overpass and construction of a new four-lane bridge over the Torrevieja Bypass, will substantially modify mobility in the western area of the municipality.
.
As mentioned, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) design measures have been implemented throughout the avenue, using draining concrete in the parking strips, and water filtering areas in the lugs and islets of the road with gravel and filtering geotextiles..
.
The works continue towards the completion of phase I, in spring-summer 2025. When the sector is fully completed, it will be able to house more than 7,000 homes, two plots for endowment equipment and a large buffer area to the north of the Lagunas de la Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park, forming a new model of sustainable development in the city.
