Safer Roads, Better Connections. AL-3106, Níjar (Almería)

The Challenge

The AL-3106 is a busy mixed-use road — trucks, cars, cyclists, pedestrians and e-scooter users all sharing infrastructure that was not built for them. Níjar City Council, working with the Almería Provincial Council, set out to fix that: a new roundabout at Camino de los Garridos and a dedicated cycle-pedestrian lane linking Campohermoso and Vistabella.

What We Did

Two focused interventions:

  • Intersection Upgrade: — a new roundabout at Camino de los Garridos, eliminating the dangerous merging conditions for heavy vehicles.

  • Active mobility connection — a shared cycle-pedestrian path between Campohermoso and Vistabella, plus upgraded street lighting and widened footways.

The works also involved full relocation of utilities: irrigation, drinking water, electricity and telecoms.
