CYCLE–PEDESTRIAN PATH CAMPOHERMOSO–VISTABELLA
AL-3106 Road (Níjar – Almería)
EXECUTION PERIOD
TOTAL INVESTMENT (VAT INCLUDED)
Background
Promoted by the Níjar City Council (Almería), the construction of a roundabout on the AL‑3106 road at its intersection with Camino de los Garridos, together with the development of a cycle lane between the districts of Campohermoso and Vistabella, forms part of the actions being carried out by the Níjar City Council in coordination with the Provincial Council of Almería to improve traffic safety and, in particular, cycle‑pedestrian mobility in the Campo de Níjar area.
This section of the AL‑3106 road connects Campohermoso with the town of Níjar and provides access to the A‑7 motorway. It not only carries heavy traffic of trucks and passenger vehicles, but also accommodates pedestrian, bicycle and personal mobility vehicle movements between Campohermoso and Vistabella for work, education and other purposes, without currently offering optimal safety conditions.
Description of the Works
• A simultaneous intervention was carried out to improve the intersection with Camino de los Garridos, eliminating risk situations caused by the entry of vehicles—particularly heavy goods vehicles—onto the road. At the same time, both population centres were connected along the entire route by means of a cycle–pedestrian path, while road lighting was upgraded and existing pedestrian areas were widened.
• The relocation and reinstatement of existing utilities, including irrigation systems, drinking water supply, electricity and telecommunications, was required along the entire section affected by the works.
The project is financed by the European NextGeneration funds under theRecovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, representing a strategic investment aimed at improving road safety and the functionality of the road network in Níjar.
